Do we face up to the impending storm, or do we shut our eyes and ears to a society on the cusp of extraordinary upheaval? Gorky’s darkly comic tale of love, heartbreak, betrayal, hope and idealism in uncertain and turbulent times, played out in the world of one privileged group of young intellectuals in a Russia on the eve of revolution, wilfully unaware of the storm that is about to come.
