“The little lifeboat is swiftly sent down. Too many men too greedily, hold on to it as they drown.”

Written by Bertolt Brecht

Translated by Tony Kushner

Edited by Charlotte Ryland

Directed by Emily Louizou
Presented by BA World Performance

A trio of gods come to earth in search of enough good people to justify their existence. They find Shen Teh, a good-hearted but penniless prostitute, and make her a gift that enables her to set up her own business. But her goodness brings ruin, and she must disguise herself as a man in order to muster sufficient ruthlessness to survive. This new production by a powerful ensemble is a gender-bending, absurd and dark exploration of what it means to strive for survival in a world bound to hate, judge and betray.
