“The Workman’s Wife” is a new translation and adaptation of the Finnish realism classic from 1885, a play that heavily commented on the social unjust that held men in power over their wives in the time when women were seen as a lesser gender.

The author, Minna Canth, is often considered to be the ‘Mother of Finnish literature’. Her masterpiece about two protagonist women, whose lives are destroyed by one moral-escaping alcoholic man, started a so-called 'book war' in Finland and its themes of lack of women’s rights and laws that favour men are still relevant to this day.
