Uri Roodner, Head of BA Contemporary Theatre
Uri Roodner is from Israel.
Uri
has an extensive career as both a performer and director working in theatre,
film, TV and radio.
He has appeared in major British theatres including The Royal Court, The Sheffield Crucible and The Arts Theatre West End, and collaborated with various leading companies including Lindsay Kemp, Complicite and The RSC. He appeared in films by major directors such as Michael Winterbottom and the Brothers Quay, and worked as a documentary film maker for The BBC, Channel4 and The Discovery Channel USA.
His award winning theatre company ‘Tottering Bipeds’ toured to many venues in Britain including The Lyric Hammersmith, Sadler’s Wells, The Traverse Edinburgh, Theatre Clwyd and Plymouth Theatre Royal. His productions also toured abroad and the company’s work was filmed for a dedicated BBC2 program in 1998.
Uri has taught for major institutions in London, as well as in New York, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Madrid and Tel-Aviv. His experience of experimentation and collaborations led him to focus his passion and his research in a methodology for ‘training a creative actor’. He designed and developed the BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre course at East 15, a unique scheme dedicated to the training of multi-talented, innovative and entrepreneurial performers.
