World Performance launch at The Groucho Club

East 15 Acting School celebrates going west and east and south by launching an exciting new degree at a glamorous evening reception at The Groucho Club in London!

As part of its new development policy, under the direction of internationally renowned theatre director Leon Rubin, East 15 is embracing performance traditions and approaches from across the world. This includes a new degree, BA World Performance, offered at the state-of-the-art Southend Campus from September 2008. A unique programme, it allows students to combine practical performance skills with an advanced understanding of global performance approaches and techniques.

World Performance launch takes place at the Groucho Club at 6pm on Monday 19 November and includes a guest celebrity speaker and exotic live musical performance. It is open to press and invited headteachers and heads of sixth forms, as it is a great opportunity to learn more about BA World Performance and East 15's portfolio of other degrees. The event is supported by publishers Routledge, as it also marks the launch of their Theatres of the World book series.

Professor Leon Rubin, Director of East 15 Acting School, said: 'This is a bold, new initiative for us and opens our doors to the diverse, challenging and rich array of approaches and techniques of performance forms across the world. It is time the UK looked further afield for knowledge and inspiration that I believe will gradually work its way into professional theatre across the country. The launch of the Routledge series is a perfect complement to this new search for understanding of world performance.'

BA World Performance is aimed at students who have an interest and skills in performance but may not want to become a traditional, professional actor. It would also be suitable for students drawn towards performing arts and theatre arts programmes at universities and academies with a strong performance tradition.

East 15, one of the UK's most innovative acting schools, has been providing professional training for those wishing to work in theatre, film, TV, radio and other related fields for more than 40 years. It has a campus in Loughton, just 12 miles outside of London and, in September 2000, became part of the University of Essex. Since then a strategy has developed to expand East 15's provision to the University's new campus in Southend-on-Sea.

As a purpose-built campus, the facilities at Southend include fully equipped rehearsal rooms and studios with panoramic views across Southend. There are extensive seminar rooms, performance spaces, computer labs and media production resources and facilities, in addition to a new theatre inside a recently converted church.
