BA Community Theatre graduate wins Hong Kong contract

East 15 BA Community Theatre graduate Matt Coombes has just secured what he describes as his “dream job”, having won a contract to work for the next two years with Hong Kong’s leading Educational Theatre Company.

Matt has been hired as a resident actor for Chunky Onion Productions. The company will be delivering their repertoire of 6 shows all over Hong Kong and South East Asia for a wide range of audiences, including schoolchildren, as well as running drama workshops and performing at festivals and corporate events.

His additional responsibilities will include teaching young people English through drama and teaching drama teachers how to teach drama.

Since graduating he has worked non-stop in the UK, running workshops and projects in theatre and performance, capoeira, circus skills and acrobatics for different companies including Theatre Resource, Arts Depot and Theatre of Inspirations. He has worked in secure units, pupil referral units, inclusive schools and Gypsy and Traveller camps and only recently finished touring a TIE show with the UK’s foremost disabled led theatre company, Graeae.

He has also been working at Circus Space, teaching circus to young people of all ages and been performing street theatre across the country with the world renowned Natural Theatre Company.

As he explains; “This job incorporates all the elements I have been trained for. I can't wait to land in Hong Kong with nothing but a suitcase and start this adventure!”
